Thoughts

My thoughts from class, well I thought our guest speaker was amazing. I thought it was great to get a point of view from someone other than just our text book. I thought it was great to see a first hand experience of what it was like to have a disability in our school system. It opened my eyes that often students who are shy are often put in the category as being shy and not actually asked about what is going on in their daily life and being diagnosed with what is really affecting them. I think that this helped to show me how we need to get to know each and everyone of our students and try to help them in any way possible disability or not. I appreciate that he did something that was so uncomfortable for him to help us out and really give us an insight on what a day in the life of a student with a disability would be like.

  1. I completely agree with you. I thought the speaker was terrific and gave me a new perspective on how students who are put into a category may not need to be in that category and that something else is really wrong/different. As a future special education teacher I feel it so important to know each student on a more personal level, showing them how to socialize and interact with others.

  3. The speaker was a new and fresh perspective for me as well. I feel that many times we are introduced to younger students with these disabilities and not so much with adults. I love reading novels about families who have struggled with Autism and Aspergers and have been able to almost and even believed to have cured these syndromes. It was very nice of him to spend his time talking to us and coping with his day schedule change! :)
